Florida is the bird state

Updated: Dec 14, 2021

I didn't plan to take a lot of bird pictures, but I live in Florida, and birds are everywhere here.

We used to live on a golf course, and I could fall out the back door and walk 20 or 30 steps and some bird or other would come into view. Herons, Moorhens, woodpeckers, wood storks, spoonbills. And even birds you don't see every day -- Eagles, owls, hawks. So I became a bird photographer without really intending to.

A few years ago I went to my home state of Maine, and was looking forward to seeing all sorts of other bird species. There's lots of trees in Maine, so there would have to be lots of birds. Right?

Wrong. The overall bird population was pretty sparse. It surprised me. So as long as I live in Florida, I guess birds will be on my to-do list.
